It’s that time of the year when we need to start reviewing what we liked about the last season and what we did not. Don’t wait till before the season starts and then complain that you did not have a chance to provide input to how the league functions or that the rules are not fair.
Some of the comments from throughout the year….tee location, EoS money distribution, number of rounds to be eligible for champion, when should we pull the balls for group pairing, how we sign up for play………..

Bobby – I have suggested that we up the weekly bet to $5 to allow for a payout to the “low-gross” of the day on more than one occasion, but have been “talked down” by several of the low-handicappers. Not sure about your comments regarding tees for seniors, but have no problem with allowing those 65 and over playing from the next tees up from where the league is playing that day if they choose. If we find that this is an unfair advantage for the 2012 season, we can always re-address next year. Just trying to do the impossible – please everyone.
I like the idea of adding an extra buck to the pot for the low gross winner. It will entice a lower handicapper into not sandbagging his handicap so he can be more competitive for the end of season awards. With the possibly of picking up 15-20 bucks a week we ought to see some handicaps return to more normal numbers and others dropping lower than they have ever been. I can think of a couple of Mike’s who would start playing more to their older handicaps anyway!

Doug – you must be kidding when you say that any player – regardless of handicap – is “padding” his score to achieve a higher or lower handicap. At least, I hope you’re kidding.
Once again I would like to put in my annual vote for using the club tees.
As for the Low Gross $$$, I am not for it, if the “Big Hitters” want it let them make it a side bet like “The Cuts” Bet.
I could continue to state that course difficulty is not based on lenght alone, but it seems to be a mute point. I prefer an association that finds ways to retain members rather than force them out. Therefore, I would support a change to our League Rules allowing our members and guests who are 65 or older (and who wish to do so) play from the next shorter tees from the ones the league is playing. Their course handicap would be adjusted accordingly.
The time has come again when dues are due and votes are requested for the 2012 committee. Once the committee has been elected, they will entertain suggestions for rule changes for the upcoming season. Who wants to volunteer to handle due and vote collection? While I’m at it, who wants to take over the “administration” of the league. It would include handling the weekly outings and handicaps. I’ve been doing this for some time now (and apparently not up to some member’s standards). I know I’ve created this “monster”, but it has become more than just crunching numbers. Just let me know who wants to take it over and I will forward you all of the records.
I would like the league to revert to using the closest to 6,250 for league play. It only adds one or two course (perhaps 4 or 5 league rounds) where the longer tees would be used. I am one of the shortest hitters it the league, and I can be just as competitive on the longer tees, and many of our long hitters, never win low-net from the short tees. If we pass the 65 and older rule that has been proposed, the longer tees should not be an issue.
I would also like to remove the rule of hitting from the red tees on par 3’s when there is not a drop area. It was suppose to speed up play. It does not. If anything it slows it down, and also can improve one’s score and handicap. I don’t believe this rule is needed.
We are three weeks away from the opening of our League Season. From what I’ve seen on this site, it appears that the only issue mentioned regarding potential rule changes is allowing our senior members to play from the shorter tees. Dick Werkmeister has brought it forward and I have offered my support. However, it takes more than 2 members to generate enough interest to put it to a vote. Unless this becomes a more active topic, it will fall by the wayside. And, if that’s the case, then the league has spoken.
Would like to petition the league for consideration of relaxing the “Wednesday” outing “rule”.
The League Rule states that “A League outing is defined as a round set up for the League’s weekly play – normally on a Wednesday afternoon.” Normally on a Wednesday, to me, does not mean MUST be on a Wednesday.
Why play on a crappy Wednesday when the weather is much better on an alternate day?
Completly agree, the last 2 Weds have been horrible. I understand that sometimes tee times are made in advance and we are getting deals, but it does not try to to call the course and see if we can just switch days if on Monday we know the weather will be crappy on Weds.
Right off the bat I want to state that although I have no documented proof of the conspiracy, the “circumstantial” evidence speaks very loud…… How is that only two days (Wednesday at Cahoon) after Derek R. cries like a girl that even though his scores have been high his handicap went down, today his handicap magically went UP by 2.2 points? And how is it that when Ron W. shoots low net just about every week and moved up to virtually 1st place his handicap for this month went UP?

As I have openly stated on numerous occasions, write down your desired handicap on the back of a $50 bill and it come to pass. Actually, I gave myself a discount. That was so that I could afford to have Tonya Harding’s friends give Arlen a whack on the knee. He may be in the lead for the moment, but he is basically out for the year – putting me in first place! It won’t last, but it feels much better than coming in last place like last year. Don’t hate me because I’m lucky. Hate me because I’m a bad winner!!!!!!!!!!
I know we have gone through a change of outing coordinator and I am happy that Mike C stepped up. Now, is it still possible to get the green fees price added to the Outings spreadhseet so I (we) know before we get there what it is going to cost on any given week??
