2019 Season
As with every year, if you want changes please speak up.
Rules are made and passed based on majority of votes NOT majority of league members. So, if you are not happy with the process or results of the votes, start lobbying for your rule change submission and a seat on the Executive Committee.
Be part of the process and understand that just because you see it one way, does not mean that the rule will be accepted by the majority of the voters.

With the occurence this past year of player(s) not playing to the rules of golf (cheating) I propose the following: In the event of a player cheating, said player will be given a warning. For a second occurrence, player will be prohibited from participating in any and all bets, plus will be ineligible for either of the 2 championships, League and Tournament. Honestly I feel that the 1 warning is being generous because history has shown us it is more likely a repeat offender.

I second the proposal by Larry. I can forgive an occasional miscount, but intentionally moving a ball, a pocket drop, etc… is inexcusable. But, do agree that everyone gets one “mulligan”

The 2019 PGA Rules implements an option to use a local rule for lost balls and balls hit out of bounds. Instead of realizing on each course determining if they are using a local rule (which they will because it soeeds up play), we should implement the rule for all of our rounds regardless of course. Here is the rule change:
IX. O.B. option
Courses may implement a Local Rule (not for competition) that offers an alternative to the stroke-and-distance penalty for lost balls or shots hit out-of-bounds. A player may drop a ball anywhere between where the original ball was believed to come to rest (or went out-of-bounds) and just into the edge of the fairway, but no nearer the hole. The golfer takes a two-stroke penalty and plays on instead of returning to the tee. This way, the Local Rule mimics your score if you had played a decent provisional ball.

Does edge of the fairway mean in the fairway? I second Mike’s suggestion.
By Larry, January 21, 2019 @ 12:23 pm
Here we go again. The operative words here are ‘decent provisional’. Why do we continue to
give advantage to those that hit wayward shots? If you would hit a decent provisional ball,
you would be in the fairway at a much further point than the drop simply because a ball hit
out of bounds would normally be of shorter distance because of the distance lost from a hook or
slice. Where is the guarantee that the provisional would even be in the fairway? There goes another
low net. I’m opposed to this.

As a high handicapper, I would love this. As a low handicapper, I would hate it. If you (I) can’t hit the fairway with a driver, use your putter – and then work up!!! How many breaks is the high handicapper expected to get? Keep hitting until you finally get one in.

I also disagree.

Hole in one plaques
Mike Clark aced #4 at Sleepy Hole last September. As always, money was collected to buy a plaque ($105) to acknowledge the event. However, around this same time the company that provides the plaques to the course lost the pictures they used for Sleepy and after 5 months they have been unable to restore theose pictures. (What?? No backups?)
Herb and I have decided it was just easier to put the award together ourselves. Herb took several pictures of #4 and has provided a nice one for the plaque. I’ve produced a plaque and am having an engraved plate made. As soon as they are assembled we’ll give it to Mike.
This is going to cost somewhere around $30/$35, significantly less than a retail plaque.
Rather than return approximate amounts to those who contributed I intend to use a few dollars to purchase a small bit of black walnut and produce 2 more blank plaques for future use. After that, future plaques can be produced about a third of commercial ones. If there is no decent, the rest of the money will be turned over to the league to be applied to the EOS tournament.
I’m happy to return the full $5 donation to any contributor that doesn’t agree with what I’m doing.
Also….. ck out what we give Mike. You may well think it’s worth the cost of outsourcing the job!

I’m with Steve……use the leftover funds for the EoS Tournament.

So glad to see that the spirit of involvement in the league continues. 15 league members submitted names for the Executive Committee, however, out of these 15 only 4 said that they are willing to serve.

Steve, could you and Herb make a trip to Pensacola and take a picture for me and make a plaque for my first hole-in-one?
By Doug, March 10, 2019 @ 9:34 am
I’d like to suggest a new rule that states a member can only elect not to serve on our executive committee if they have served in the last 2 previous seasons.
By Rudy, March 10, 2019 @ 11:19 am
I agree with Doug…..that or pay a fine to say no.
By Rudy, March 10, 2019 @ 11:28 am
Rule change submission: Propose that submissions for new rules and new Executive Committee voting be done within 30 days after the completion End of Season Tournament.

Golf etiquette in our league sucks!! If you are playing outside of our league and you are slow as hell wouldn’t you let a group that is behind you waiting and watching your 2 minute routine on every shot play through? Hell yes you would, and if you wouldn’t your an asshole. There is a huge difference between playing bad and playing slow as hell. I completely understand if there is no where to go for the group trying to play through but if you are behind, and the group is on your ass waiting every shot do the right thing and let them play through!!!

From the SPAWARSYSCEN NORFOLK Rules: “The tournament will be held on the last Friday of September with the first and second Friday of October to be used as alternates for inclement weather”. So, how come the tournament is scheduled for October 4th?. Is the Executive Committee able to forecast the inclement weather 3 months in advance?
By Derek Riepma, August 11, 2019 @ 10:12 pm
Agree with Larry, what’s the deal with the tournament date?
By Ron Williams, September 6, 2019 @ 8:46 pm
Why do we bother with rules if they are to be ignored?
